What is life?

Just a cycle of stages!
Things comes and goes in this cycle. When it starts, the first movement itself you cry! but your surrounding smiles and celebrates!
When you grow up... with time you learn new things(GIFTS) : 'fear', 'affection', 'me/mine-you/yours' from the surroundings and your pure heart get spoiled!
Now when you cry or laugh or become happy bcoz of the virtual temporary artificial event! your surroundings reacts on that and understand that now you got matured and 'eligible' to be the part of this family/society/world.

Just THINK You will be no more!!! it's your last minute on this earth this virtual world.....What will you think ....Ohh...
1. I didn't finish that deal/job profitable for my business...
2. What will happen to my money and my property etc...
3. What will happen to my family...
4. I didn't get chance to inform my family about my hidden deals or money or other info...
5. My Wife/Husband ... kids...
6. My girlfriend/BF...
7. My parents....
8. How many sins i have committed...
9. Before going how can i harm my that enemy...
10. I didn't fulfill my dream to visit the whole world...
11. My dream of having expensive car...house...NAME...FAME...
12 ...

.... AN Infinite list of wishes and dreams comes bcoz of the GIFTS you received from your surroundings!!!

If you can throw these GIFTS you will never get these wishes and dreams and so no virtual cry no virtual laugh... it is just 'vacuum'.... and when a 'vacuum' take place in the human life, it is the STAGE where you meet with the energy(Human call it 'God') that was waiting for you from the first day of you in his virtual world. A walk along with that energy will make you free of everything ...

Try to generate a 'vacuum' inside you... yes these GIFTS will resist of that...but be strong...it will be panic in starting...take it slowly-slowly and move further...
That energy is watching you and will guide you time to time and on the right movement it will be ...just a 'vacuum' ...may be you will afraid of that as you have habit of the noise..lot of noise...noise of thoughts....just relax and keep going... and then that will throw the ladder for you to climb up ... :)

It is just like how much sugar you want in your tea!!! mix the 'vacuum' in your life as per your taste, more 'vacuum' ... more sweet your life!!!

Yes, i am talking about mobile developer's professional life.

There are 2 worlds and they are having 1-1 mapping...!

Let's open the bundle. In our social life in most of all countries, there are 3 classes of humans!
a) Low: Who has less money, do the hard work/internal complex, known by less people, happy in their own world... and hard to find jobs for them!
b) Middle: Who has good money but struggling to make more!, do the work mix of hard+easy(less complex) means jump of any work type from these 2 based on the time & requirement, easier to find job as they are flexible to move between the hard & easy.
c) High: Who has MONEY! They make Money! World knows them & interact with them, many jobs options for them, always running for new ideas to make money!

Now Same applies for the Mobile world...How?
Here also we have 3 classes...(With an example of any OS e.g Android)

a) Low: Who has less money, do the hard work/internal complex e.g. Kernel Development, known by less people, happy in their own world... and hard to find jobs for them... yes there will be always less opening for the kernel development!
b) Middle(middleware): Who has good money but struggle to make more!, do the work mix of framework & JNI etc + easy(Mobile APP dev etc) means jump of any work type from these 2 based on the time & requirement, easier to find job as they are flexible to move between the hard & easy.
c) High: Who has MONEY! They make Money! World knows them & interact with them, WHO MAKE APPS, many job options for them, always running for new APP ideas to make money! YES....AngryBirds is a example of this... they MADE MONEY... World knows only the app & app developers... they enjoy the money and fame both...YEP!

The another interesting real match is in our social life that middle class is breaking/disappearing... few who are unable to change with time are thrown back in the low & who are able to adapt the new direction of AIR moved to upper class! .................................. Same in Mobile world... who works in middleware if are unable to change with new technology changes and want to stick with one will automatically falls in the Low one.... and WHO adapted the NEW technologies e.g. Android, iPhone, WM7 etc... Moved to the Higher one.

Now you think! where are you NOW and where you want to move FURTHER!

How to... if you want to create and destroy the Bitmaps too frequently...

This post is the result of providing solution for the ISSUE 'bitmap size exceeds VM budget' if Activity is restarted' filed at http://code.google.com.... click here ..... .

According to Andreas(who filed this bug), he tried to create and discard the image in the 'onCreate' method of app's Activity and if the Activity is restarted (because of the orientation changes or anything else check it here...)

Andreas's code is below, here he is creating 10 bitmaps...

Now, run the app but it blasts....

The reason of this is... allocation of the memory for PNG Image file(size 262.1 KB) that is converted to Bitmap is more frequently rather than the freed memory done by the DalvikVM's default GC routine, so before the GC do something the app has already gone.... :-(

This type of problem always comes when we play with Images in Garbage Collected environment like JVM (J2ME apps) and in this case Android app.

To handle this issue basic approach is make the recourses or objects 'null' and call 'System.gc()', Let's use this approach in this scenario...for that remove the final keyword from the 'InputStream is' and remaining as follows...

And it works fine, check it below...

WE THINK it is GOOD!
But check my another approach below....

Without GC calls it is working like a charm!!!
Yes, Android provides an api 'recycle()' for bitmap object. Let's see how does this api works...

If your see above, in the 'freePixels' method it free the colortable, unlock the the pixel address for an existing bitmap then free the memory.

Conclusion: For Android specific we should use the 'recycle' method rather than 'gc', because 'recycle' will free the memory at the same time, but calling 'gc' doesn't guaranty to run and free the memory for same time(if it is not too critical, we should not call gc in our code) and results can very every time.
One more thing using 'recycle' is faster than the 'gc' and it improves the performance.

Update: "If we don't call recycle on the bitmap then it is GC's responsibility to free that, but in actually the timing for automatically call of GC to do this is uncertain and that make things worst. It is not bitmap's or any other object's responsibility to say hey i am done now they call or trigger GC. in other words it is not a bitmap or any other object's bug but...we can say that it is a GC optimization algorithm's bug while CPU is fully in use(that for loop) and missed the right timing ... and that is too late for that app. so as a partial responsibility we should call recycle or gc in our code, in that case recycle is best to use while GC comes with side effects."

First Android : Virus ... Torjan ... Malware ... Spyware ! Please don't create a scene...
Oops! an application that do something not intended to do, has many names like ...Virus / Torjan / Malware / Spyware...

Recently 'Kaspersky Lab' found an unwanted app that do something fishy('not intended to do'), the name is given to it is 'Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlayer.a' ...Good Job (for making the awareness!!!)

Let's see how it works...

1. It spread via message, the message prompts user to click and download an free(makes greedy) android application(.APK file) by giving feeling of a media-player application.
2. The user downloads the app and installs it, app installation shows user about app and required permissions for access different device services. User accepts it and app installed.
3. Now what? user starts the app or it is AUTOMATICALLY started if it is a service or registered with notifications.
4. This app do the wonderful job by 'increasing the user's mobile bill' / 'making a hole in pocket', this app keep sending the premium SMS and operator do it's duty HONESTLY.... :-)

Additional news... new android anti-viruses will be ready near by 2011....!

In one previous post 'A thought on mobile security threat' i talked about android security model.

1. Never install non-market apps (in android these is a way to install non-market apps if user has checked/enabled the option 'Allow install of non-Market applications' in 'Application settings', but by default it always remain disabled so a 'normal user' is safe!)
2. Ok, if user enables non-market app installation, then it is his/her moral responsibility(100%) not to install untrusted app.
3. Again...gurr...Ok, if user installs untrusted app, but before installation android system asks user "Dear owner, this app's properties are ...e.g. name, size... bla..bla.. and PERMISSIONS requested by this are ...e.g. INTERNET, LOCATION, MESSAGING ...bla...bla...bla.", in this app case the media player app permissions request includes messaging too! and user without checking that goes further with the app installation. (Does media player requires messaging permission?...not at-least in this case).

Now the app do the things for what it was programmed... and user/community shouts android is not safe....................!

IF SOMEBODY WANT TO DIE, NOBODY CAN'T HELP THAT...NOT EVEN GOD.

It's your device ... your bill and your privacy... you can play with that but don't blame to an innovation...'AN ANDROID'.

At last... Android never requires any type of ANTI-VIRUS... but people will make it and they will sell it too to them ...who want to die by following above 3 steps...but in that also ...what an anti-virus android app will do... it will ask about the running app to anti-virus server and if any it will remove it, that's all. You can do it by yourself, if something wrong with Market approved app, Google will kill that remotely(i think any unwanted app, not need to be a market app).... no need of ANTI-VIRUS for Android...

If you love your device please don't overload that with unnecessary ANTI-VIRUS application.

Android EasyRoot! Explained...

As most of Android developers are aware of rooting the android device.
There was an app on android market to root & unroot the android device in a easy way..."Easy Root, but removed from android market by Google!

But what was the secret of the this app doing all these steps in a single click?

This app is a java app...

It has a native library (developed using NDK)...

It is certified app to access system resources...

At last... a list of handy 'exploid' tools ...all these you can get on internet...

This app with the help of Native code (libndkfoo.so using NDK) + JNI + java application executes the exploid tools... su,superuser etc and achieve the goal, how to use these tools...Google it! :-)

This app nicely wrap the difficult steps of rooting in a single click.... that's why it asks for 0.99$ to buy it!

NOTE: Rooting a android device can be dangerous in terms of security bcoz it opens the root access and any app can take benefit of that(check my previous post 'A thought on mobile security threat'). As well as before doing that plz go through for Terms & conditions of OEM...

@Cause of my this thought ...was my earlier status update over linkedin...twitter...facebook about the security threat in Android devices due to 'Android wallpaper app that takes your data'.... actually got a green flag from Google "The developer’s applications have been reviewed and the suspension has been lifted." for more information please visit the app developer's website http://www.imnet.us/.

A false or lack of 'end to end verified' statement can cause great pain for the developer as well as threat between the end users (as it happened now).

In above case Google provided the guidelines to the developer for achieve his/her requirement without collecting unnecessary data!

While i was thinking about all these... i paused, many thoughts came & went in my mind ... and same i tried to summarize below...

In old days most of mobile devices were closed embedded devices...as the fast growing mobi technology made human life better & easy... but what about security!

More sophisticated more open/hidden doors!

Today in the list of widely used high-end devices are Android, iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Symbian....may be few other!

As per me most of mobile virus are for Symabian OS then second is Windows Mobile, on both platforms viruses can do a deep level destruction.

In comparison of Android & iPhone security model.... let's break it in 2 step security model...
1. App approval process.
2. Device security model.

App Approval Process: Apple has a tight control over the iPhone app approval process compared to Google's android app approval process. This makes the app to follow certain rules & regulation to get approved.
This reduce the risk but not a foolproof way... in app approval the app is tested against the automated private tools that checks if app is using any private API or system call that is prohibited to use for app developers or app is not following developer guidelines, they check app's network uses & the data transmission done by the app.
"The Back Door" : What will happen when the app is approved and user downloaded on phone... "An application can be programmed to do certain task on certain time(e.g. after app approval!)"
Here the "Device security Model" comes in picture to "REDUCE" the risk.

Device Security Model: If a user want to download & install an app on the device then what about security mechanism!
In iPhone, apps are allowed to download from the Apple store only after app approvel... Android has same thing as well as user can download non-market app too... yes! but for that user has to give green flag in device settings to do this. (it gives flexibility but app is from non-market ...no app approval... so can be a deadly one!)

Let's take a example that an app "Killer" is available on both platforms (iPhone & Android) and got app approval (but still with the hidden things).
In case of iPhone app download & install process, this app will be downloaded and installed too!
In case of Android app download & install process, Android System provides a protection layer...How?

The Android System displays the Permissions required for the app for do the certain tasks(e.g. Internet, Contacts, GPS accesss etc) and they will be visible to end user, if user is ok with that... app will be installed. iPhone missed it and Android gets +1.

The second strong pillar of Android security model is 'Linux' ...yes Andorid runs on Linux ...'a proved historical open source operating system'.
What are the benefits of running on Linux...(you can find a lot information on this just Google it) the major one is Linux security model, each app runs in own 'Sandbox'.
If an app try to attempt something fishy, it will not able to do at system wide. In Linux 'root' access required to take control of the system and that is not available on end user device(Oops! i am taking about locked devices only)

In Android each app required certain permission for access system resources, so user knows what this app want but in case of iPhone if app is escaped from the app approval process & installed by the user... it is more risky rather then the Android, why?
In iPhone an app doesn't provide any way to let user know what it want and each app is equally treated (no permission required compared to android), so it can do a lot to device data... and it will be reported only if it is noticed by someone....and that can be too late... isn't?

Other benefit with Android + Linux is 'Open Source' ...yes...thousand of brains are studying that and contributing in that...so any flaw will be caught & fixed in early stage. I DON't say that Apple or any other are not having brains .... but head count matters!

Android Market is improving & Android OS too.

I think Android is good in terms of device based security.... not only security ...in all areas... recheck the numbers of android devices sold per minute/hour/day....or till now....or what about these numbers till 2012! Stay tuned... this is called mobi evolution like a BOOM!

Linux - Ubuntu : Sudo Power made easy

Many of us working in Linux/Ubuntu faced the issue in the File Browser that if any file/folder has root permission then we are unable to change/delete/move etc.

There is a simple approach for that...

First right click on the Top-Panel where the date is displayed, the following menu will appear...

Click on the "Add to Panel..." option, it will display this window...

Select the "Custom Application Launcher" using mouse and click on 'Add' button.
A small dialog box will appear fill the information as given below...

Click on "Close" button to close it... Now you will find a small icon on the Top Panel where you right clicked the mouse...

Thats all click on it and File Browser will be started with Sudo rights and you can play with file & folders...

BUT BE CAREFUL... use this only when such things required to do else use normal File Browser from 'Places' menu....
As well said in Spider-man movie "Remember, with great power comes great responsibility".

A peaceful day with sip of Bangalore Android Group Meetup

Bangalore...This Sunday(@Today) == A peaceful & energetic day...!

Every day's routine office-home....in between transition of this... more traffic jam and stucked ambulances .... blowing siren is trying to say please let me go... what i have noticed ~ in last 1 month is that the 'number of ambulances' / 'frequency of ambulances blowing siren' increased dramatically while the 'traffic' & 'traffic problems' too increased in same curve.

Today the same road but ....above problems were not there.... thinking if possible to everyday like today... maybe Metro will be able to solve these problems till an extend...hope so...!!!
I was on the way to 'Bangalore Android Group's 5th Meet up', location was 'ThoughtWorks Technologies (India) Pvt Ltd', Koramangala @ 2:00 PM - 5:00PM.

There were ~ 30 attendees (yes... head count was less as it was proposed only 1 day before and many other events too was conflicting with this date).

As per the agenda (total 3 talks) the 1st talk was 'Android: Opportunities Beyond the Mobile Phone' by Arjun but he was slightly late as he flied from abroad to Bangalore, India for this event (i want to give special thanks to him for his time and motivation to android group), so the ball was thrown in Ankit's hands (as per agenda his talk was 2nd one).

Ankit talked about 'Dalvik VM with JIT', in his talk he covered about intro of Dalvik VM & compared to transnational Java VM as well as about the JIT compiler reintroduced in Froyo (Android 2.2), most of was smiler as presented by(in more deep) ' Ben Cheng & Bill Buzbee' in Google IO 2010 ... download the ppt here... & the event video is available here...

The 2nd talk was by Arjun on 'Android: Opportunities Beyond the Mobile Phone', he talked about various areas where android can be adopted as solution other than a smartphone solution.
It was nice talk if any company/organization want to figure out about android adoption in respect of business, development, license , product ideas etc...

The 3rd & last talk was by 'Josh Rochlin' (CEO, www.xtify.com) on 'Going Beyond the App - Push Notifications and LBS' via skype(it was a tele-presentation) from USA and it was near by 7:00 AM there... :-) ... He gave a presentation on xtify SDK, this SDK provides push and location-specific push messages to publisher's app (android & iphone). Technology wise there was nothing new but entire packaging of SDK & web UI based analytic solution was interesting and attractive for developers. The good thing i felt about his approach of interacting with app developers directly and that makes a connection(compare to other similar service providers).

Over all it was a good half day event... only one power-backup issue was there that was making the projector up & down.

Tomorrow is Monday.... :-) ..... same route ...same traffic ...same traffic jam ... and stucked ambulances begging for the way to save life........

USB Modem installation in Linux for dummies

First of all let's read about the background of the movie (a small story), i am a guy who was in the love of MS-DOS + 'C' language(Turbo-C IDE) around year of 1998.
With time Operating Systems changed MS-DOS > Win95 > Win98 > Win2000 > WinXP > WinVista > Win 7 Ultimate, meanwhile i came in touch with macbook + MacOSX 10.5 & 10.6 too!
@ time of WinXP i tried Linux OS too...but left very soon... :-(

Near by 2 months before i read on internet about 'Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx' (released in April 2010) and decided to try it.
The beauty of the 'Ubuntu 10.4 LTS' is that os installation process is very-very easy and take very less time, you can install it as folder with your windows installation as well as a separate partition in old fashion style. OS image file .iso's size is near by 700 MB only. you can mount the iso image in the windows using e.g. using Power-ISO s/w and execute the windows exe file available in that, system will be restarted and its all done.
The most great thing i liked about this is OS's UI, support for apps installation, performance is amazing (in windows it shows 20% RAM is free but here it is opposite only 20% is used in a just booted PC/Laptop.
It left the Windows 7,MacOSX 10.6 behind ... it is like a friend @office & @home too!
I tried latest OpenSUSE too! (as per internet for laptops it is good in power management etc) but the KDE UI was crashing, hang etc...i removed that and back to Ubuntu 10.4 LTS.

Till now you have read the story from the child days till the young Age :-)
Let's Start the thrill...

I am having USB CDMA Modem from MTS (MBLAZE connection is 3.1 Mps but get avarage speed of 512 Kbps, sometimes in night @ 3-4 AM it gives speed of 1 Mps - 2 Mps).
For this USB modem there is no driver or s/w on Linux flavors.

If you search for drives on Google you will find so many links for how to do that, but...
-All are not telling why are we doing this(install specific package or any hack etc)
-If any NEW USB Modem hardware there no support on internet too! (As in my case I am having 'ZTE AC2766' USB Modem and that is a NEW device from MTS and i didn't find a single thread/post for it :-(
-If any New device comes then how to try on that.

Let's make hands dirty...

Once you plug your device(in my case 'ZTE AC2766'), start the terminal as 'root'(yes in most of cases it is required) then run the cmd 'dmesg' and it shows the following output...

Here if you see in the 2nd line '[ 1183.317277] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=19d2, idProduct=fff5', the value of idProduct is fff5 ... this means it is a storage decice like USB removable/CD drive etc and Linux mount it same.

As well as confirm it with 'lsusb' cmd...

Two powerful blasts of excitement – real story!!!

Yes! These are the real blasts...

The first one is the more powerful rather than the second one!

Ok... Let me open the magic box... :-)

The first powerful blast is that ‘Android 2.5’ the upcoming android version will be having so many great features and the most excited is ‘Portable App Engine’. Using this new Portable App Engine, Android will now be able to run Palm Pre and iPhone applications using a virtualization/virtual-machine.

If you Google about this : ‘Android 2.5 + Portable App Engine’ ... You will find so many links and comments saying that this is a April fool.... :-)
But the FACT is ...it is true... That 2.5 version will able to run iPhone apps (99.99% will happen, .01 % may they can drop this feature...).

Now you are thinking, how do I know about this!
I was attending a developer summit last week in Bangalore, and one guy was checking corporate internal emails in front of me(I was not having any intension to peek in his/her laptop but accidentally he/she was making it public and the internal email thread’s subject was ‘Android 2.5 will run iPhone apps’....once I saw that and I don’t remember anything about the presentation that was going on there...my full attention was hacked by that email’s body!!!

Think the BIG day when the android phone will be running the applications from different appstore (e.g. iPhone, Palm etc...)... wow!!!

I know you are thinking ... who is that BIG GUY doing that or involve in that... I can’t disclose the name but the BIG GUY is who invested a lot in it's new product used for iPhone apps and stunned by the Apple’s new developer policy!!!
ohh ..that is enough!!!

Wat's second... I am a old friend of windows mobile(as a developer from last 5 years)... And windows phone 7 is coming with the winCE 7.0 version... (winCE 6.0 is very powerful in itself now think how will be the winCE 7.0)
I am waiting for a boom in mobi world and cause should be windows phone 7.

One thing I can sense/predict is that year 2010 is going to be year of boom & blasts in mobi world.

Ohh! Today i got few minutes to write about interesting events....whatever i have attended this week.

On 22-April-2010 i attended 'Great Indian Developer Summit' - GIDS.JAVA. Most of sessions were good, specially all the sessions from the speaker Mr. Venkat Subramaniam.

Today i attended 'Learn and Network amongst Android Fans' a meetup from 'The Bangalore Android User Group'.

The meetup was great. All the sessions were good, specially the session 'A Peek Under the Hood' presented by Mr. Kaiwan Billimoria ... A FLOW OF GYAN. His session's attraction point was 'Android Architecture & Internals' and he presented that very well.

There was a lot of positive feedback & a kind of willing to contribute towards the 'Autometer' application (to know more about this look in to my old posts).

Totally enjoyed the today's meetup and what is the most motivation factor for the BAUG is ... this is the unique fastest growing android group who's each upcoming meetup is supreme of previous meetup.

Review : Opera mini on iPhone OS 4.0 (3GS)

Opened pages .... tried the rendering ...browsing experience etc...

Wat's NOW! It sucks!..... iPhone Safari has same features (most Of) BUT in one safari is winner!

I opened my linkedin profile "http://in.linkedin.com/in/sandeepchoudhary" in opera mini... it showed me this page.. an bird view (full page) that's ok.

Now i tried to slightly zoom-in and it gave me worst experience ..the full screen page...!

Only two modes...

bird view = very less readable

fully zoomed page = lost myself in that! (i know iPhone has webkit support ..powerful like desktop versions....BUT don't forget it is again mobile screen!!!)

iPhone safari is winner, it gives me control over zoom as much i want and i love that.

Opera mini has rendering issues...!

Today i have installed the iPhone 4.0 OS Beta on my iPhone 3GS. I have taken the screen-shots of new things available in this version (new in the user's perspective i have found till now.This is beta, more features to come).

Lets 'Unlock it' ... :-)

Welcomed by the home screen with the background image (new).

You can change the wallpaper in settings...

Change in Location related services (in UI notifications), In GoogleMap app the left hand side (in bottom) 'MyLocation' round icons is changed with arrow. If any app use the geo-location, one small arrow will be shown near the battery percentage.

Every App's Geo-location access can be controlled individually in settings.

You can change the default search engine...!

You can organize apps into folders(folder name is automatically given) with drag-and-drop simplicity, and you can rename the folder too!

Local Notifications are available for Apps.

New Setting 'Accessibility'.

Accessibility contains lot of options. (White on Black is interesting one)

New 'Voice Control' added in International setting.

New 'Game Center' added....This is ultimate...! (for more info Google... :-)

Press twice the home button and it will show the apps running in background ...wow!

It shows 4 apps at a time, to view all you have to scroll in left or right direction on the displayed apps list in screen's bottom.

How to stop/close/exit an app, press and hold the app's icon(here i selected the iTunes app) will show a '-' symbol on the app icon, clicked that and app had gone.. :-)

See below the iTunes app is closed.

It is great.... i think, in the multitasking the app save its state and on-launch restore it quickly.... similar to android(as per me!!!)

The Magic behind operator/cell tower/BTS based location tracking... !

I was writing the answer for a question in Linkedin Q&A : Why does the basic geographic unit of mobile cell in cellular system have a hexagonal shape?

I didn't get the feature to attach an image there...so i decided to write in my blog in a explained way so that question will be covered in this.

In a mobile network (e.g. GSM) there are 4 basic words !...

MCC (Mobile Country Code)

MNC (Mobile Network Code)

LAC (Location Area Code)

Cell ID (Cell Tower ID) or BTS cell

MCC represent the operator's country (for India it is 404), MNC is allocated to different operators(a operator can have more than one MNC), LAC can be >= 1 in a city based on the high traffic, in every LAC there are lot of BTS cells.

Each BTS tower has 3 antennas, on 120 degree from each other. each antenna associated with a CELL-ID number with last digit from 1 to 3 (e.g. one BTS has 341, 342, 343). the last digit 1,2,3 tells direction of the mobile device from the related tower ;-)

Whenever a mobile is connected to mobile network(for example Airtel(40445) ), a combination of MCC(404)+MNC(45)+LAC(61)+CELL-ID(341) will be assigned to that.

In following photo 3 BTS are shown (A,B,C) they make a virtual reachable circular area around them based on the BTS's transmission power and if you see the antennas meeting virtually with each other are making a HEXAGONAL shape ... :-)

For any movement each mobile device is connected to minimum one BTS (which has the strongest signal rather than other BTS cells) and has list of other nearest BTS (mobile device switches between one BTS to other based on the signal strength from them on a given time)

The height of tower and the area covered by the BTS or you can say area's width (in a circular area around the BTS) depend on the transmission power of the BTS and there are mathematical formulas to calculate that.

Now... ! interesting use case of this technology ...in LBS (Location Based Services), that gives the mobile device's location in latitude & longitude units with approximate radius in meters. (how ! reverse Geo-coding ...~ :-P

The case study of this is Google map app from Google & 'StreetSmart' app (developed by Me ;-) ) from (www.asklaila.com), this app shows the user location on map in mobile devices that doesn't has GPS chip(based on the BTS cells) and as well with the GPS chip if the device has that.

There is a-lot to talk on this in deep... but i think for now, this much is enough.... :-)

Today i hired an auto from EGL to go UB city (around 8 km).

After few seconds i observed that this auto is different from others..!!!

Yep! This auto was having an electric meter (only 20-30 % autos have E meter in BLR) , on right side there was a stand that was having an english newspaper & one FILMFARE magazine... and one small color LCD+Player was playing video&audio...!

The auto driver was so polite, i told him that i am getting late... He took the (shortest and having less traffic) way that made my trip so smooth (with help of newspaper & magazine,video) & i reached UB city before the TIME !!!

Everyday i used to go in auto to my office (from BTM to EGL nearby 8 km one side), in bangalore most of auto meters are faulty as well electric meter also!

So it was everyday's fight to get the right fair if i change the route or go to any other place in auto.

So my idea was to create an app that will calculate the fair, distance, waiting time, route on map, store the last trip, settings, etc etc...

First version was developed today....

Suggestions are welcomed!

Thinking to make it open-source... :-)

Now working on this , adding new features & making it clean... :-)

Again thanks to amit to provide the office space and pizza for hands on & as well other developers(names : Gaurav, Sudar, Vinay, Sumanth, Krishna and Saurabh, as well as app will contain all this information like code contributors & name of the source of app idea) for code contribution to this app (including me & amit).

I reached to momo office on time directly from the tech days plus 2010 event.

Around 15-20 people were there, from Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore.

Event started with my presentation...

it was on mobile advertising... what, why & how!

I gave a demo of In-app advertising using the InMobi iPad SDK, how to integrate it with the app and integration is quite simple rather then other solution available in market !!!

Next Demo was an app demo followed by presentations from the PrupleTalk.

It was quite interesting event and with lot of fun, Gyan & Q&A.

Next Meetup will be soon and it will be a blast!!! (like hands on & dev an app etc etc...)

ohhh...forgot to tell tomorrow is 'Mobile Dev Conf E E' and i am presenting there, my session is @ 2 pm - 2:55pm in spring hall, see u there... :-)

Attended Tech days plus 2010...review

It was a fight for me to reach at the venue, i have taken iPhone 3GS with me and trying to find the route till there... Google map app on iPhone was showing me the way ...go right and right was one-way to come not to go :-( ... this happened to me on lot of places on the way!!!

Ok lets take it this way...Bangalore roads are frequently changed so no updated map...excused!!!

But the app was not showing the my location accurately if i was standing in open sky...then also!!!

I want to mention that last to last weekend i was out and with the Google Map but on HTC hero (Android phone) and map problem was same but location was accurate for navigation so i managed the route by looking the map. (In iPhone this problem is with the Google map app or with the iPhone Location support ...God knows or the Apple knows!!!)

Anyway i managed to reach there & it started with registration & morning coffee :-)

First session was a recorded video from 'James Gosling' father of java...it was on java's story & JDK 7!!!

Next session was on 'Java FX' product + technical, in technical one they created few demo apps for Java FX.

Then Coffee break after this next session was on JDK 7, new addition to java language ...etc etc and it was followed by the 'Gyan' from the accenture company on J2ME (useful for the developer new to J2ME !!!)

Now Lunch break...!!! (it was delayed by 45 minutes in respect of the today's event agenda)

It was already 3 PM and today i was going to one more event ''http://www.meetup.com/Bangalore-iPhone-Developers-Entrepreneurs-meetup/calendar/12790939/' (i was going there as a speaker) and that was far enough from this event's location & afraid of Google Map support on iPhone for returning route...so i left the event early!!!

Points to summarize...

-Event was good, wifi was available there.

-Lunch was good... :-)

-Java FX demo was OK

-New features shown there in JDK 7 are already avaliable in C#.net!!! , it was like somthing to compete with silverlight , Flash , Visual Composer...bla bla bla

-Code that required for Java FX is mix of java & java script syntax, a new burden for developer to adopt.

-Good one is... code written for Java FX once the same binary will work on desktop, mobile & TV.

That is enough!!!

Here it is an iPhone app Link4's review...

I played a-lot this game & i liked it. It is a free network based game. But this has few issues...

-It crashes often.

-If i am playing on move & network connection fluctuate most of time it gave me 'YOU LOSE', if this is opponent player's move to take next step then also!!!!

-AND... one day the big thing happened to me and from that day i stopped playing this game...

I was in my home, playing this game with 'Alexiiya' and i was winning this game see below picture the cross line & one more another option to win in this movement, this game was not allowing me to put in that another one and allowed to put in displayed one (the white line). anyway i won..!!!

... but suddenly it was showing me "YOU LOSE"...Why....?

No Answer.... I was so frustrated and deleted this game from iPhone...

I was thinking if any game is free ..does it mean the quality is compromised....no proper testing...!!!

Anyway it was a good & bad experience with Link4... :-)
